Excerpt from The Best Miracle! Preschool Easter Lesson
(1) Do you ever look out the window before Spring comes. Everything looks dead. The bare ground doesn't have anything growing in it. (Point to ground). The eggs in the nest are brown and dull. (Point to nest). The little cocoon is still, and there is no sign of life. (Point to cocoon). But then Spring comes, and everything comes to life! Beautiful new flowers pop up out of the ground! (2) (Place flowers sticker on picture). The new baby birds hatch out of their egg! Who can tell me what sound a bird makes? (Say "Tweet, tweet" and encourage children to make bird sounds). (2) (Place bird sticker on nest). And, the pretty baby butterfly bursts out of its cocoon! Let's all pretend we can fly like a butterfly. (Move arms up and down like wings). (2) (Add butterfly sticker). Did you know that God is the one who makes all these wonderful miracles happen? Let's see what our Bibles say? (Read Psalm 77:14) I have a true story to tell you that happened a long time ago. Listen close for the miracles that happen in the story. Miracles are things that only God can do. Later I will ask you some questions about that the miracles that God does in the story.
One day Jesus had a talk with his friends. He told them that soon he would be taken away. But, he told them not to be afraid because he would come back again. But his friends didn't want Jesus to go away. They were sad. They remembered all the great things about Jesus -- The way he showed them so much love, and the way he taught them patiently. They remembered Jesus' miracles -- how he healed sick people and made blind people see! Jesus did lots of things that nobody else could do! (Shake head no). They loved Jesus! And Jesus loved them too! Jesus' friends wished he could stay with them. But Jesus wanted to show ALL people everywhere how much he loved them!
Even though many people loved Jesus, some people did not love Jesus. (Shake head no). In fact, some hated him. They didn't want to believe that Jesus was from God. So, they came and took Jesus away. (3) They treated him really mean. They spit on Jesus and made fun of him. Then they hurt him by placing a crown made out of thorns on his head! Then they hammered sharp nails in his hands and feet (Point to hand), (4) and hung him on a cross made out of wood. (5) Jesus' friends were so sad to watch Jesus die on the cross that way. But soon everything would change! After Jesus died, his body was taken off the cross, wrapped in strips of cloth and placed in a tomb. (6,7) (Place wrapped body in tomb) A tomb is like a cave where they put people who have died. (Point to tomb). Jesus' friends watched nearby as a big stone was rolled in front of the tomb. (Place stone sticker on top of tomb). Now it was sealed shut. Jesus' friends went home very sad that day. They had forgotten what Jesus had told them. Jesus had told them he would come back again, but they didn't understand what he meant. (Entire lesson, The Best Miracle, is available on Bible Kids Fun Zone. Order)

(Picture 1 again) In the Spring we see many of God's miracles! He shows us that he can do things that we can't do. He makes flowers pop up out of the ground! He makes baby birds hatch! And he makes wormy caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies!
Let's talk about some of the miracles that God did in the story. Remember when Mary and her friends went to the tomb? What happened when they got there that made the guards afraid? (Let children answer). Yes. God caused an earthquake to happen just then! That is another miracle that God did! (Entire lesson, The Best Miracle, is available on Bible Kids Fun Zone. Order here)
Below are some of the Activities for the Bible Lesson, The Best Miracle, about Jesus' Resurrection:
Easter Story Activity: Tell a story with pictures. Place these story pictures out on a table. Let children help you put them in order of how they happened in the story: 1. Sad friends (Jesus' friends were sad that he was going away). 2. Mean men (They nailed Jesus to cross). 3. Cross picture with lambs. (Jesus died on the cross. He took the punishment for our sins). 4. Tomb (Jesus' body was put in the tomb.) 4. Mary with friends (Walking to tomb). 5.Tomb and angel. Take stone away. 6. Mary surprised. (Jesus is not here.. He is in heaven watching over you).
Pretend Play Activity - Let's Pretend We Mary going to the tomb! rep: Set up an area in your room (behind a table or a low wall, or a very large box with a hole cut out of it). Play: Have one child pretend to be the angel. The other children pretend they are Mary and her friends who visit Jesus' tomb. The angel runs up to the side of the "tomb" when Mary and her friends come by, and say, "Look inside. Jesus is not here! He is alive"! Then "Mary and her friends" look inside and see that Jesus is not there.
There is also a preschool action rhyme with hand motions for this lesson. This is a rhyme with hand motions. Go through the rhyme (on left column) and actions (corresponding right column) once for the children, then ask them to try to do the rhyme and actions with you.
