Devotion - God First Loved You

Mark your Bible with the Bible Memory Verse: 1 John 4:19

Hi! Its me, Tickles the bear. I'm here to share with you about LOVE!

Valentine's Day is this week on February 14! Did you know what Valentine's Day is about? Its all about love! Most people think of Valentine's day as a fun day when people show their love for their friends, family and loved ones. They give gifts, cards to the ones they love. They say silly rhymes about love and talk about cupid's arrows. Some people are full of hugs and kisses on Valentine's day. Lots of kids make fancy Valentine's boxes and exchange cute cards. They might even have a yummy Valentine's Day treat at school. Or, maybe they play some fun Valentine's Day games at home. Its a lot of fun for everyone. But, did you ever think about where love comes from? Who taught us about love? Who made us able to love?

Its really pretty simple. We love because God first loved us. Listen to this verse: (Read 1 John 4:19). He is the one who started this whole love thing. He designed it. God IS love. He is all about love. He showed us how to love each other. He gives us the Bible to tells us how to love him, and love each other. He puts love in our hearts when we become a follower of Jesus. He is like a fountain that keep pouring out his love on us, and like soft rain that pours down his love on us. Receiving his love helps our love grow. His love is so awesome and so great. When we learn about his love, we want to love too. He was the first one to love, and he will always love us. While people are sometimes stingy with their love, and aren't very good at loving, God's love for us never runs out! His love just keeps coming, more and more...more than we even know!

And do you know what else? We can't to do anything to earn God's love. He already loves us. There's nothing you can do to make him love you more...He already loves you more than anyone else ever will. None of us did anything to deserve his love....he just loves us anyway. We can never repay God for all the love he has shown us!

How much does he love us? Nothing compares to how much God loves us! Think about how good it makes you feel to hug a fuzzy teddy bear. Have you ever been licked by a playful puppy who wants to show you how much he loves you? Remember those hugs and kisses from Mom and Dad that comfort you when you feel down or when you are scared? Do you ever get the happy warm-fuzzies when a special friend comes over to play with you. And, doesn't it make you feel good to see Grandma when she comes to visit you with a big smile. And what about the times your special friends show how much they care about you when they give you gifts and cards. Well, God loves us so much more than all of this.

And you know what else? When you get closer to God and become a friend of God, he helps you love others better! So, keep coming back to this site to learn more about God. You can also viist the kids' sites listed on our links pages. Just remember, as you learn more about him and draw closer to him, God will draw closer to you. He will help you grow into a more loving person! Now that is something to celebrate!

So, this Valentine's Day, remember where love comes from, and ask God to help you love better!

Happy Valentine's Day!
