Free Father's Day Gifts for Children to Make (Recipies)

How to Make: Melt chocolate chips and butter; let cool. Let child help you add pecans and marshmallows and mix. Lay out an 18" sheet of waxed paper. Child fun: Child can help sprinkle coconut on waxed paper and spoon mixture to form a log shape across length of waxed paper, and sprinkle more coconut on top of chocolate log. Wrap waxed paper around chocolate log and tuck in ends. Refrigerate for at least 3-4 hours. Slice in approximately 1/2 inch thick slices. Child decorates container or snack bag with Father's Day stickers. Give to Dad on Father's Day. Child can also give cookie coupons and have Dad redeem them for the cookies.

How to make: Prep for mom: Heat the oven to 350° F. Coat a 9- by 13-inch pan with nonstick cooking spray and set aside. Melt the butter or margarine in a large pot over low heat. Remove the pot from the heat. and whisk in the sugar, honey, flour, vanilla. Child fun: Mix rice cereal, oats, chocolate chips, dates and walnuts in bowl. Mom adds that to first mixture. Transfer the mixture to the baking pan: Place sheet of waxed paper on top. Using palms of hands, child can press the granola firmly into the pan, packing it to a flat, even thickness. Baking for Mom: Bake for 20 minutes, until golden brown. Allow the granola to cool 1 hour in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into bars. Makes 16 to 24 rectangular bars.

How to make: Prep for Mom: Spray 12-in. pizza pan with non-stick spray. Place crust on pizza pan and bake at 350°F for 8-10 min. Cool. Blend cream cheese, stevia, and vanilla. Child fun: Spread mixture over cooled crust. Place banana slices in layer over cream cheese mixture. Top with remaining fruit slices over bananas. Make some with Dad's favorite fruit. Cut into wedges.

Note: Stevia is a delicious all-natural sweetener with close to 0 grams of sugar. A little goes a long way, so it is less expensive than it seems. Online prices will usually be much less expensive than retail stores.

Did you ever wonder why we celebrate Father's Day? Its a good idea to have a special day to honor and celebrate our fathers, isn't it? But I wonder who started the whole thing anyway? The story goes like this:

There were a few towns that had celebrated Father's Day in their own quiet way, but the girl who helped make it the official day that we celebrate was Sonora Louise Smart Dodd.

Sonora, her Dad and brothers and sisters lived on a farm in Washington. You might be asking where was her mom? Well, Sonora's mother had died when she gave birth to the 6th child, when Sonora was 16 years old. Since then, her Dad had raised all six children on his own! He sounds like a really special dad, doesn't he?

One day Sonora was listening at church to a sermon about Mother's Day. She decided right then that there should also be a Father's day to celebrate and honor fathers around the world. She wanted to show special honor to her own Dad who she loved so much.

Who do you think Sonora would tell her idea to? She told a group of men, but they laughed! They said they didn't want any Father's Day -- they wanted a national fishing day instead! But that didn't stop Sonora! She marched right into the local YMCA and told them about her idea. She also told a group of ministers. They were all for the idea! They passed a resolution to support Father's Day. Then, the very first local Father's Day was held on the first Sunday in June, 1910, the same day Sonora's dad was born. Then in 1924 President Johnson signed a law that said the 3rd Sunday of June would be the official Father's Day. So we celebrate Father's Day because of the special little girl named Sonora. I'm so glad she didn't give up when the first group of men made fun of her idea. I think Father's Day is a great idea. Don't you?

One lazy Friday afternoon, Grumbly Bear and Bumbly Bear were just sitting around talking. Father's Day was just a couple days away, so Grumbly Bear was thinking about Father's Day.

Grumbly Bear couldn't decide what to get his dad for Father's day, so he asked his friend: "Hey, Bumbly, what are you gonna do for Father's Day? Are you going to buy your dad card, or do something nice for him?" Bumbly bear got very quiet. "Well"....he said, "Uh....well, I don't really have a dad.... You see. I live in a children's home. I never knew my dad"

"Oh", said Grumbly, "I see." "So, who takes care of you?"

"Well, there are some grown-ups at the childrens' home who are really nice. They take care of me. George and Shelly are the ones who take care of me the most. There are others who help teach, and do crafts with us kids."

"Oh", replied Bumbly, "That sounds kind of fun. It must be like a really big family!"

"Yeah, it is fun! There are lots of kids to do fun things with. But...still...he said, with a big tear starting to fall, "Its not the same as having a family. Sometimes, I wish I had a real family. Then I would feel like I belong somewhere."

Grumbly looked sad too. He felt sad for Bumbly and put his arm around him to comfort him. But, then he brightened up, "You know what, Bumbly? I just remembered a Bible verse last week at Children's church. It goes like this: (Read Deuteronomy 10:18). That verse is about God. It means you really do have a Father. And he loves children who feel like they don't belong. And He really cares about you too.

"Really? Then where is He? How come I can't see Him?, asked Bumbly.

But Grumbly was ready with a great answer, "Well...nobody can actually see God. Just like the wind. We can't see it, but we know its there. And, we know God is real because the Bible says so. And, EVERYTHING in the Bible is true. So we can believe all of God's promises. Plus, I know a lot of kids who don't have dads around. Some kids have dads that work a lot. Some kids never knew their dads, like you. And some kids have dads, but they don't live with their dads." But, you know what? God will take special care of you because you don't have a dad. He loves you so much!. He will always love you. You can be sure you will always have a Father with God. He is your Father in heaven.

"Wow! " Bumbly replied, "I really do have a Dad. And He cares about me more than any Dad cares about their kids down here, huh?"

"Yep, That's right, Bumbly", answered Grumbly, " There are a lot of great Dads around, but God is the best Father any of us could ever have. He thinks about you, and cares about all of your concerns. He has great plans for you too. And, he loves to hear your prayers."

"Well, then maybe we should pray...can you show me how?", asked Bumbly.

"Sure", Grumbly said, then he started to pray, "Dear God, thank you for my friend Bumbly Thank you for being his Father in heaven. Thank you for taking care of him at the Children's home. Please help him to trust you because I know you love him very much. And, I know that take good care him, just like you take good care of me too. In Jesus' name, Amen."

"Amen!", Bumbly agreed with a big grin. "Thanks for telling me about my Father in heaven, Grumbly. Now I know I really do have a Dad after all. Now I think I want to make a Father's Day card just for my Father in heaven.

"That's a great idea, Bumbly!, "let's all do that!".
