If we've suffered great loss, we can remember what we have as our inheritance.

When we're discouraged it helps to remember remember the character of the Lord.

God is love. 1 John 4:8

Patient with us. 2 Peter 3:9

Unchanging. Hebrews 13:8

And remember how he has taken what was nothing and made it into something

something beautiful. Genesis 1:1-27

How, from his perspective, he says the poor person is rich--

rich in Christ Jesus, rich in spiritual things. James 2:5

When I feel like the whole world is against me,

I remember that he is for me Nothing can change that.

Nothing can take God's love from us. Romans 8:31-39

When things don't turn out as we thought they would, we can remember

God's plan for his children:

Jeremiah 29:11-13

When someone tries to make me feel worthless, he reminds me that he sent

Jesus, his only Son -- the sinless one, perfect and holy, to pay a huge price for me. He says I'm worth that much to him -- pricelss! John 3:16-17

The Lord is our stronghold. He does not forsake his children who seek him. He will avenge our enemies.

Psalm 9:9-12

When we feel like there are enemies all around us, and even our pretend friends are acting more like enemies, he reminds us that we can take cover under his wing. He has the power to stop flaming arrows, knock down strong towers, overthrow governments, dispose of rulers.

He promises he will never leave or forsake us, even though we don't feel his presence sometimes, he is there, hearing our prayers, helping, planning great things for us, caring deeply for us, like the shepherd does for his sheep. Read the story of Joshua to be comforted in Deuteronomy 31

Even though he made the vast universe, he attends to us personally. He knows when we rise and go, when we sleep, when we play or move or breathe. He knows what we will say and what we don't say. He knows us more intimately than any, yet loves us more than any. That's comforting to know, isn't it? Psalm 139

Take refuge in the Lord. His sheep are always under his care. Psalm 95:7
